Briteyellow and thecentre:mk have announced that Milton Keynes’ Britezone will soon expand throughout the shopping centre, enabling visitors to connect to free WiFi broadband.
thecentre:mk and wireless communication specialist Briteyellow have announced a new deal to extend Britezone WiFi access along Silbury Arcade and Midsummer Arcade, from Sunset Walk at the back of Marks and Spencer to Middleton Hall in front of John Lewis, starting in February 2008.
Centre Director Robert Goodman said “We are always looking at ways technology can provide a better shopping environment for customers and secure free WiFi broadband is one of the new ways we can enhance their experience. This new service will give our customers maximum flexibility, whether they visit for shopping, leisure or business. We are delighted to partner with Briteyellow to roll-out secure high speed WiFi.”
Fredi Nonyelu, Briteyellow MD, greeted the agreement saying, "We are delighted by the endorsement of Britezone WiFi by thecentre:mk. A high percentage of Britezone users are visitors to Milton Keynes. With a 30 million annual footfall thecentre:mk is the key destination in the city. By extending Britezone WiFi coverage inside the shopping centre we will not only be providing high speed access to information for those visitors but helping the local stores to attract more shoppers with special offer promotions through our portal."
The decision by thecentre:mk to approve the Britezone expansion was given after a successful 12 month pilot.
Britezone coverage currently extends from Milton Keynes Central Station square to Midsummer Place. Users can access Britezone from the growing number of bars and restaurants at thestation:mk, thehub:mk and Midsummer Place.
thecentre:mk logo will appear to every user when they first log on to the Britezone. Users are able to choose free access basic broadband or paid subscription for faster connection speeds.
