Milton Keynes businesses benefit from free Wi-Fi Britezone™

Briteyellow Ltd, in partnership with Invest Milton Keynes, has launched free wireless broadband in the city centre. The service, which will go live on 1st August, will initially cover from Milton Keynes Central Station to Midsummer Place retail district. The entire city centre will go live within 3 - 6 months. The Britezone™ will provide free internet access on any wireless enabled mobile phone, hand held computer or laptop. Wireless internet will empower businesses within the Britezone™ to be more responsive, flexible and productive in the way they operate.

The Britezone™ will provide high-speed Internet access for e-mail, interactive video and low cost voice-over-internet (VoIP) telephone calls. Individuals can also ‘roam’ without breaking the connection or loss of quality

“Milton Keynes will have largest continuous area of free wireless broadband connectivity in the UK,” said Fredi Nonyelu, managing director at Briteyellow. “This is excellent news for Britain's fastest growing city and one of the most commercially successful with regional, national and international recognition as a great place to live and do business.”

Wireless coverage can be extended to hundreds of square miles by installing additional ‘nodes’ in existing fixtures such as street signs and lamp posts. This will provide residential areas, as well as businesses, with free broadband Internet access and low cost international and domestic VoIP telephone calls.

“The 21st Century wireless Milton Keynes project has been in planning for 18 months and will now network Central Milton Keynes absolutely free! This is the largest continuous area to have free Wi-Fi access in the UK to date,” said Grant Seeley, director of investment at Milton Keynes Partnership. “The network can be used securely and can be used ‘on the move’. It cuts communication costs and provides a seamless uninterruptible roaming on a small, mobile or large-scale basis.”
