Britezone launched in Milton Keynes City Centre
Briteyellow, in partnership with Invest Milton Keynes, has launched now its ‘Britezone’ delivering free wireless broadband to Milton Keynes city centre. The service launched this month covers Midsummer Blvd, between Secklow Gate and Saxon Gate, in the retail and business heart of Central Milton Keynes.
The free network provides high-speed Internet for email, surfing the web and internet telephony (VoIP) to anyone with wireless-enabled equipment. This is the first phase of a deployment which will extend inside thecentre:mk shopping area, along Midsummer Blvd to MK Central station over the coming weeks. Following the initial rollout, coverage of the city centre and then the entire city is planned.

| "Milton Keynes business and residential community within the Britezone now have free access to one of the largest continuous areas of high speed wireless broadband connectivity in the UK,” said Fredi Nonyelu, managing director at Briteyellow. “We are already working on an exciting new initiative which will be launched in early 2007. Anyone who is outside the coverage zone will be able to obtain a free Britezone box from Briteyellow to have in their homes so they can log in and also enjoy the benefits of free wireless broadband.” |
An alumni of Cranfield University’s Technology and Business School, Fredi brings over 20 years of leading edge technology experience from international corporations including Critical Path and Cable & Wireless PLC.
Grant Seeley, director of investment for Milton Keynes commented on what this means for the city centre: “After 18 months of planning and testing, the wireless network is now available, cutting vital communication costs for local businesses and residents alike. For companies looking at Milton Keynes as a business destination, this could be a valuable proposition. For our emerging café culture, it is also a great opportunity to network and easily link into information systems back at the office if needed.”
